You may have noticed in our latest issue Mike’s article for parents that discover their child has been exposed to sexual activity (WHEN THE WORST HAPPENS, June 2010). We’ve also made available for free an audio download called SEX EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN. This is because we sometimes get heartbreaking letters. The most heartbreaking ones have to do with children.
Yard chickens develop a natural pecking order. Mama hens brood and raise little chicks. Roosters protect the hens and vie for position. At least, that's how it used to be.
Today, if you go to the feed store and get little chicks, you’ll find that brooding and natural mothering tendencies have been bred out of them. This is because corporate chicken farms need to have everything streamlined. This means that eggs are hatched in a hatchery and baby chicks are never taught to scratch for bugs by a mama hen.
If you place these distant descendants of yard chickens into an actual yard, they will be defenseless. The hens weren’t taught how to be mamas, so they don’t know how to teach the chicks. The roosters never learned from example either, so they bully rather than protect. These birds won’t know what to do when a hawk’s shadow flitters across the grass. In the chaos of that chicken yard, they’d all be easy pickings for the first predator to show up. Of course, the chicks would be the first to go.
So, what do you do when the chicks are in danger? You call to them. You cluck a warning. You show them where to hide and how to run to help. Chicks need to know that there are bad guys and they need to know how to stay safe.
That’s why I’ve been working, working, working to complete another children’s book called YELL AND TELL. I don’t know when it will be complete, but I’ll REALLY appreciate your prayers as things move forward. Keep watching my blog and No Greater Joy Magazine, and I’ll update you on the progress!

It has come to may attention that a vocal few are decrying our sensible application of the Biblical rod in training up our children. I laugh at my caustic critics, for our properly spanked and trained children grow to maturity in great peace and love.
Numbered in the millions, these kids become the models of self-control and discipline, highly educated and creative—entrepreneurs that pay the taxes your children will receive in entitlements. When your children finally find an honest mechanic or a trustworthy homebuilder, it will be one of ours.
When your children apply for a job it will be at a company our children founded. When they go to a doctor, it will be one of our Christian children that heals them with cutting edge innovation. When your adult kids go for therapy it will be one of our kids-become-psychologist that directs them to the couch and challenges them to release their self-loathing and embrace hope for a better tomorrow. When your children grow old and realize their mortality and seek to make peace with their Creator, it will be one of our children that shares with them the message of God’s love and forgiveness.
My five grown children are laughing at your foolish, uninformed criticism of God’s method of child training, for their kids—my 17 grandkids—are laughing . . . because that is what they do most of the time. They laugh when Daddy is coming home. The laugh when it is time to do more homeschooling. They laugh when it is time to practice the violin and piano. They laugh when they see their Big Papa coming (that’s me) because Big Papa is laughing and they don’t care why just as long as he laughs with them.
My granddaughters laugh with joy after giving their baby dolls a spanking for “being naughty” because they know their dolls will grow up to be the best mamas and daddies in the world—just like them.
People all around the world, in places like Russia, China, Germany, New Zealand, Guatemala, Peru, Africa, and fifty other countries are laughing with joy because after applying the Biblical principles found in our books they finally have happy and obedient children.
Even my chickens are laughing . . . well, actually it more like cackling, because they just laid another organic egg for my breakfast and they know that it was that same piece of ¼ inch plastic supply line that trained the dogs not to eat chicken....

In the middle of January 2009, we held a seminar in southern California. The three sessions were packed out with 1200 happy souls. LISTEN TO MY DREAM is a 39-page children’s book written by Debi Pearl as a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The book is written in poetic verse and colorfully illustrated by Debi and her husband Michael Pearl. They had never known what it was like to be forbidden to extend a kindness because someone was a different color. They had never known what it was to see hatred based upon color. The local library had only one children’s book on this historic figure. So Debi wrote LISTEN TO MY DREAM over 20 years ago to fill this gap in her children’s education. An unsuccessful attempt at publishing left the little volume in a forgotten corner of her office until this past year when it was re-discovered by another child that had never heard the stories. Debi determined that this time she would publish the book so that other children would learn about the world she had known, the history she had witnessed, and the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
But Dr. King was more than just a social figure. He was a man, a husband, a father and a preacher. Debi’s husband Michael is also a preacher. I asked her, “How will you respond to people who say that Dr. King preached against some of the things you believe? How do you honor someone that preached and wrote against some things that your husband teaches are fundamental truth?”
Debi’s simple response was, ‘My issue is that things changed because he spoke out. This man wasn’t perfect. He was used by God to change history. He made a difference. Children need to know what a difference one man can make.’

Being a good child trainer and parent is not beyond the reach of any Christian parent. As of July 2009 Michael Pearl was ranked 4th in the expert division by the International Knife Throwing Hall of Fame. Son, Gabe Pearl, was ranked 8th in the intermediate division.
That changed October 6th, 2009 at the competition held at the Alamo in Texas. Mike achieved his highest score ever and placed second overall in the competition. According to Mike "The only reason I got second was because the first place thrower was better."

This week's Bible Question has to do with how and when a Christian should forgive past wrongs.
This subject is of special interest to those who have been victims of child abuse. Many of these survivors are told that they must extend forgiveness in order to properly heal and move on with their lives. Then there is the question of what a parent should do when they discover their child has been molested.

As she sat there holding “her” hammer asking an endless stream of questions on a plethora of topics, what I was actually teaching her was that she is more important to me than my job.
